- After detailed discussion it has been decided not to implement a cadet class for the Juniors at present. This is because we feel that there is already too much time pressure on the competition organisers, with the World Championships currently needing 10 days of competition which means 5 days of surfing on 2 separate sites. So the Junior class age requirements will remain unchanged with Junior being defined as being "18 years of age or younger on December 31 of the competition year."
- The age range for the Masters class will change to be between 40 to 49. Over 50s can enter the Grand Master class but not the Masters.
- For the team event the number of alternates will change to 2 for each class.

Can over 50's paddle as a master in the team eventor is there going to be a grand master slot??? Can they paddle in the Open or they being forced out of the team? Does this mean a master cannot paddle in the open?
A bit concerned I may not be allowed to paddle in the team event as I am over 50. This might discourage paddlers from going to Portugal. Are the over 40s a little worried about the over 50s? Or perhaps this an oversight when the individual event rules were changed.
Surely any age of paddler is welcome in the team event within in the age groups available

I am in the same boat as you so to speak, our view is that as there is no grand master in the team event there is nothing to stop us paddling in the masters, or open. My question has been on here for 2 months with no response. I suspect team Canada's question will remain un answered as well
